UCLA Joins Nationwide Coalition to Study Potential COVID-19 Plasma Therapy Treatment
The University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) along with more than 50 institutions across the country, is participating in the National COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Project to determine whether plasma from people who have recovered from COVID-19 can be used to treat other patients with the virus.
Researchers at UCLA are asking for blood donations from recovered COVID-19 patients to assist in a clinical trial related to the project.
"There is currently no treatment for COVID-19, but small studies have suggested that the disease-fighting antibodies found in convalescent plasma may help people recover from the virus," said Dr. Alyssa Ziman, a medical director of transfusion medicine at UCLA, according to the press release on the project.
People who have recovered from COVID-19 and who are interested in donating to UCLA's study must register and take a survey.
